Hands With Heart

We actively promote healthcare to children with disability and disavantages in Bali and Costa Rica. Based on an international volunteering program, we trust in developing a social sustainability program as well as the skills to become self-reliant

Where we work

Hands with Heart
The work of Hands with Heart

Hand With Heart Foundation actively operates in Bali (Indonesia) and Costa Rica.

In Bali, Hands with Heart collaborates with four different centers located in Ubud, Canggu, Denpasar and Uluwatu. These centers are for children and young adults with physical disabilities (neurological disorders, anatomical malformations, severe traumas, etc.) and for children with special needs, primarily blind and with intellectual disability, and orphans (Denpasar and Uluwatu). We also provide home visits for patients in rural areas with limited access to healthcare.

In Costa Rica, we operate in centers located in the areas of Cartago, Desamparados and Talamanca.

Too often the access to this kind of health’s programmay result too expensive for the families and even out of the cultural perception.

We are willing and glad to work with the centers in need whilst providing training to improve the ability of their therapists to treat their patients, as well as for the family members for a more social sustainable development.

What we do

Hands With Heart Foundation isan international volunteering program collaborating with osteopaths, physiotherapists and optometrists. The program is open to expansion to all healthcare professionals seeking to treat patients, while also assisting in the development broad range of services at the centres. We offer healthcare and wellbeing advice for children and young adults with disability, special needs and for those who are economically disadvantaged. By working with new professional modalities and incorporating them into a daily approach, we aim to help the kids to reach the potential by developing a social sustainability program as well as the skills to become self-reliant.

Disability is a complex and lifelong condition that can be challenging on many levels, for the patient and their family. It requires lots of specific support, guidance, patience and love. Due to economic, social and cultural circumstances, we have spotted a lack of specific healthcare support for people living in Bali and Costa Rica and we aim to fill this gap.

Our presence in these centers provides daily cares, education, special training for local therapists and support to the families, allowing the centers to host more children.

From a professional perspective, the volunteers get the opportunity to expand their knowledge by daily practicing and by sharing their experience with therapists coming from more than ten different countries in the world.

about us

As Foundation, we are based on an international volunteering program from the year 2016, gathering students, junior and senior professional therapists from all over the world to provide healthcare services and treatments, primarily but not exclusively through manual therapies to children and young adults in need. We also share different approaches and therapeutic modalities with local healthcare therapists. We encourage Continuous Professional Development by delivering workshops and internships.

So far, we have included osteopathy, physical therapy, and behavioral optometry within our services. However, we are looking to expand the services we can provide. We strongly recommend any healthcare professional and social worker who believe they can assist to apply.
